Think Spring!

Although the first day of spring is almost upon us (officially on March 20th), we "Phoenicians" have already been enjoying mild temperatures, playing outdoors, bright blue skies with white pufffy clouds, and beautiful blossoming flowers. However, sometimes it feels like spring is short-lived here in Arizona, especially when in another month or so, before we know it, the temperature will quickly soar in the high 80's and 90's and we'll be crawling indoors to be in the air conditioning!

Although we can't control mother nature, we can definitely let the nuances of spring influence our inspiration for colorful, crisp, and life-evoking decor and accessories for entertaining. Whether you are planning a wedding or an outdoor soiree, now is the time to choose a color palette that induces the freshness, renewal, and growth that spring stands for.

Keep it simple; tie in punches of color with a clean white backdrop. Highlight flowers that ARE in season NOW for centerpieces---not only will your budget thank you (since you won't be requesting out-of-season blooms that have to flown in from somewhere like Holland or Ecuador), but nothing is as reminiscent as fresh florals that are grown in the springtime...it will be a welcome sight for guests who have been surrounded by the grey, dreary hues of the winter months that have just passed.

Here are just a few of our favorite spring blooms that are in season:
Ranunculus, tulips, roses, dahlia, calla lilies, peonies, daffodils, anemones, hyacinths, irises, lily of the valley, sweet pea, delphinium...

Groovin' at the Inspirador

We are so excited to share with you what Embellish has been up to. We were honored to be asked to showcase our work at the Inspirador's Open House on February 24th. What a beautiful touch this venue is to historic Chandler. This space was definitely created for the trend setting bride and for other artful events. Our favorite aspect of the Inspirador is the mix of romantic, elegant touches, combined with modern lines and sophisticated elements. You have to check out the modern crystal drop chandeliers hanging in the main ballroom! We also love the adjacent outdoor courtyard that opens out from the ballroom. This is a perfect area for an outdoor wedding ceremony, a spot for guests to enjoy a cocktail from the bar, or as a place to create a 'loungy' atmosphere in front of the outdoor fireplace.

Our inspiration for our tablescape was centered around the Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" 60's favorite, but with a modern flare. Here are some of the pictures taken courtesy of one of our most talented vendor's Cristi Owen, owner of Cristi Owen Photography. Thank you Cristi for your attention to detail, your outstanding talent, and for your sweet, soul that inspires us!

Our fun, funky tablecloth really laid the foundation for our color palette. This linen, ("Brown Bristol" from BBJ Linen) immediately reminded us of a psychedelic bedspread or pillow that our parents might have had in one of their guest bedrooms back in the day, but the mix of happy colors and floral design lent itself to be used in this retro table design. We wanted to add some contemporary touches, so instead of a typical floral centerpiece, we used bright yellow ostrich feathers in a black matte textured vase, reminiscent of the 60's. The retro-shaped black letters used to spell out "LOVE" gave the table a whimsical touch without going overboard. Since our inspiration was a Beatles song, probably the most understated element on the table (you have to look closely) was using 12-inch vinyl records as chargers. We married each record with an apple green charger underneath to add depth and height. Although we avoided integrating daises into this sweetheart table, (as to not give it a "flower power" feel), we added two fresh yellow Gerber daises, trimmed and placed in water in yellow petal votives, to balance each place setting.

This retro, modern table design could be used for a wedding reception head table or sweetheart table (for that couple who seeks a colorful, playful color scheme to their wedding), or for another type of social, charity, or even corporate event that demands a lively theme. For those do-it-"yourselfers", don't be afraid to mix in certain elements in your tablescape (e.g. like the vinyl records or colorful feathers) for a "wow" factor or as a point of interest to compliment your theme. Era-themed events are always fun ways to draw out unique pieces of decor that stores (or the internet) might not carry---sometimes you might find that perfect piece on the top shelf of your (or your parents') closet!
